If you are attending the I.C.E. Conference in Miami, Florida, USA, we shall be delighted to welcome you at our booth (# 321) for a chat with cApStAn Founding Partner Steve Dept, Business Development and Marketing Team Devasmita Ghosh, and Anubhav Nathani.

Besides being an exhibitor, our Founding Partner Steve Dept will also be a presenter at a session, titled “Generative AI, the Augmented SME and the Augmented Translator: large language model assessment development in multiple languages”. It will take place from 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, with Sara Vispoel, the Chief Assessment and Learning Officer at Finetune (Prometric), and Steve Shapiro, the CEO at Finetune (Prometric).

Summary of the program:

Large language models (LLMs) have existed well before ChatGPT. The sudden global publicity of generative AI has created disproportionate expectations as well as distrust, misuse, and ethical concerns. This also applies to item generation in both monolingual and multilingual settings.

The panel will take a broad view of the risks involved in using generative AI to produce assessments (hallucination, recursion, lack of validity and reliability, bias replication and exacerbation).

The panel (i.e. the founder of Finetune Learning, a psychometrician, and a linguist) shall look at the feasibility of treating language models as a productivity tool for subject matter experts, whose expertise must remain at the core. They shall also discuss the cross-pollination between mature translation technology, large language models and the gold standard for item translation and adaptation.

Learning Objectives:

Understand different perspectives on lessons learned during the first two years of mainstream access to generative AI.

Determine how these lessons learned can percolate into a feasible model that is scalable in a multilingual context.

Apply these findings to determine the right balance between the respective roles of AI and SMEs within their own organisations.

See you all in Miami, FL!
