National Council on Measurement in Education conference in Toronto, Canada

cApStAn Linguistic Quality Control is thrilled to co-chair a coordinated session at the NCME (National Council on Measurement in Education) conference in Toronto this week. The symposium “Test Adaptation, Translation errors, and Linking across Languages in International Large Scale Assessments” (ILSAs) will be held on April 8th and is co-chaired by Kadriye Ercikan, Vice President of Psychometrics, Statistics and Data Sciences, ETS, and Professor at University of British Columbia; Lale Khorramdel (National Board of Medical Examiners), and cApStAn’s CEO Steve Dept. It is an immense privilege to have Prof. Ron K. Hambleton, the driving force behind the ITC guidelines for translating and adapting tests, as the discussant. Translation quality is crucial in ILSAs, as resulting test scores need to be comparable across different countries and languages. Steve Dept will set the scene with the opening presentation on “Translation, test adaptation and linguistic quality assurance procedures in PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) and PIAAC (Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies)” where he will share his experience in ensuring linguistic equivalence of PISA since its inception, in 2000, and PIAAC since 2010.
